We Have Come a Long Way

In 1989, through the dedicated work of community leaders, the local Chamber of Commerce, and the generous support of Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, the Boys & Girls Club of Harbor City/Harbor Gateway was formed as an extension of the Boys & Girls Club of Wilmington. The Club provided gang alternative programming at the Normont Terrace Housing Development in response to the escalation in gang violence in the surrounding areas. After two short years, the organization detached from the Wilmington Club and earned its charter from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In 2001, as services expanded into neighboring communities, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the South Bay was created. Today it serves thousands of boys & girls in the communities through out the South Bay.

Our
Mission

To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the South Bay develop youth to become responsible, caring and productive citizens.  Our comprehensive youth development programs and services all work towards the goal of helping young people, particularly those from disadvantaged circumstances, lead better lives.

The objective of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the South Bay is to positively affect the lives of as many children as facilities and resources will allow.  The organization holds firm to the belief that keeping children away from trouble is not the most difficult task in the world if you can provide a place that is nurturing, fun, creative and welcoming for them.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the South Bay has a total of six active sites and 2 sites that will be opening in 2008. Our sites include B&GC of Harbor City/N.F.L. Y.E.T.
