Our Character & Leadership Programs empower youth to support and positively influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image and participate in the democratic process.
Ages 11-13: Chartered, small-group leadership and service clubs, a Torch Club is a powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life. Through service activities, Torch Club members identify Club and community needs, develop programs and activities and actively participate in their community. Above all, they give young people a chance to contribute something of value to others.
Ages 14-18: The goal is to promote character and leadership among Club teens. Older adolescents need positive group experiences that help them cultivate good character and effective leadership skills so they can become productive, responsible and caring citizens.
Service and leadership are the hallmarks of the Keystone Club experience. Keystoning is learning in the best sense of the word because it is integrated with action. It is a unique character development experience that gives young people the opportunity to contribute something of value to others and to have a voice in how that contribution is made.
Youth of the Year:
Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Youth of the Year recognition is the highest honor a Club member can achieve. The Youth of the Year program celebrates youth who have overcome enormous odds and demonstrated exceptional character and accomplishments. These deserving young people are recognized for service to their Club and community, academic performance and contributions to their family. Youth of the Year honorees are shining examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs.
